2017, a fast and perceptively year. The ongoing medial coverage, about an assumed renaissance of vinyl culture is the big misunderstanding between apparenty interest and the daily hard life of a store owner. The growth rate concerns online sales, less the analog existence without web store, discogs business, …

The new enthusiasm about vinyl or vinyl culture is simply an appearance and less a reliable movement. A simple example on not reliable rapture showed the Berlin based RadioEins on a video, produced for the “vinyl day“ on their channel. Be stunned here

Therefore, here a few notes about our daily business, light spots and alienations.

main challenge of the year:
the new quality on perception that means the dislike to spot something. Curiosity is slowly dying, spontaneity already disappered. In other words decorators versus music lovers.

customer: do you have bird sounds on vinyl?
we: yes, have a look ( 9 records with 324 bird samples from three continents).
after 8 minutes – no business. He missed the bird, he was looking for.

Berlin On Vinyl 2. Edition

Simply, because the are not really thrilling releases this year, we feel sometimes a little bit like this

Record Store Day 2014

mmmh? last year I asked and I do it again – does the RSD makes sense for a normal, small, private,  independent old school record store – no!! why ?  – because i don’t have that play money i need, to order these tons of releases for again higher prices. I don’t have the good old Dukatenscheisser in the basement. Buying price for a RSD 7Inch in 2014 five to ten € – each. How many do i need 1/3/5/10 – more? That means for just one interesting article prepayment from realistic 20 to 100 Euros. How many releases? LPs, Boxes, …..up from 15€ to 50€ each – how many make sense – 1, no – 2, not really, 3, more ?

For this year we mainly concentrate on 7Inches and will hopefully offer a nice, interesting mixture . For preorder, of course also on 10/12Inches and Boxes, please use the german list !

The biggest Christmas Gift for us – the funding for our Book Project – Berlin On Vinyl was successful. That means in Spring 2014 we will offer a wonderful coffee table book, about the view on Berlin through vinyl covers
